Greetings!

It’s the beginning of another year and I’m sure many have made their resolutions – one being resovled to accomplishing a few of your resolutions this year. I have to admit, I am one of those people. However, the one resolution that is really hitting me hard this year is trying to strike that all elusive BALANCE. Now of course balance means different things to different people, but it has come up in many conversations so far in the early days of 2016.

As an entrepreneur it’s a constant struggle for me to find the balance to keep my business moving in the right direction (growth of course) and making time for myself as well as spending time with those that are important to me. I admit I don’t always make the right choice. Granted I don’t work till 10-11pm much anymore, but I still miss my 6pm yoga class too often or push dinner with family later. So this year I am making a conscious effort to improve that.

One of the ways will be by helping my clients to be more prepared by staying in touch and reminding them of potential repeat events. Because one of the reasons I get so frantic is that many days go by without my to do list getting touched until the end of the day. Why? Well, my clients call with rush projects. They forgot an upcoming event or a sudden opportunity has arisen. We drop everything to help. And we still will. Rush projects are always going to be a regular part of our day, but now, I may push more items to the next day from my to do list instead of staying so late to get them done.

I would bet that you can manage your clients a little better too. Yes, with the internet we all want instant gratification but sometimes I tell someone that I will get them the information the next day (they have said it’s urgent) and they tell me, no worries I’m not in for the next 2 days anyway! I do believe we all may be experiencing similar requests. So don’t be surprised if we ask you how soon you may need the information. I’ve found that many people are just trying to get it off their desk and the request is not so urgent at all.

By trying to manage my client expectations as well as keeping them abreast of upcoming programs I am confident I’ll be much more balanced and less stressed in 2016. It’s something to think about for all us and the requests we make. If you don’t need it now, say so. I will.

So, here’s to the start of a more balanced approach. I hope you try it to!
